first_imgBatting legend Sachin Tendulkar heaped rich praise on Vijay Shankar, saying the all-rounder had a dream start to his World Cup campaign.Tendulkar’s comments came after Vijay Shankar came up with an impressive bowling performance against Pakistan in India’s 89-run (DLS) win at Old Trafford, Manchester on Sunday. Shankar, replacing an injured Bhuvneshwar Kumar as early as the 5th over, got the ball to swing back into Imam-ul-Haq and had the Pakistan opener trapped in front.Shankar then came back to get the big wicket of Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed in the 35th over just before a rain interruption in Manchester. Pakistan needed 136 runs off 30 balls following the rain break after which it was just India’s turn to complete the formalities.Speaking to India Today after India’s emphatic win, Sachin Tendulkar said Vijay Shankar’s inclusion was indeed the right move by the team management.”I thought his [Vijay Shankar’s] inclusion was correct and he proved himself. Picking the wicket off the first ball was a dream start for him. the moment that is realised now things are easing down a bit. Before they could press the gas hard, Vijay Shankar hurt them.
