first_imgby Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — A closed hearing has been tentative set for May 14, at 4 p.m. in Sumner County District Court to discuss a Larned State Hospital mental competency evaluation report of Lindsey Nicole Blansett, who is charged with first degree murder of her 10-year-old son at her home on Dec. 14, 2014.The hearing will be behind closed doors and involve a video teleconference with a psychologist of the mental competency evaluation. It will also include county attorney Kerwin Spencer, defense attorney Mike Brown and Judge Scott McQuin to determine if Blansett is competent to stand trial in Sumner County.Spencer said the hearing will not be public in fear that to do so will taint a future jury pool. He said the hearing will review possible evidence that could be admissible or inadmissible for trial.Blansett, who was in attendance today in court, has returned from Larned where she undertook an extensive mental evaluation. She is currently in custody at Sumner County Jail. The judge will determine through the mental evaluation report, whether or not Blansett is mentally capable of understanding the nature of the proceedings or whether she should remain in custody of a mental institution.Blansett has been charged with first degree murder of Caleb Blansett, a 10-year-old Lincoln Elementary student in Wellington. She is accused of using a rock and knife multiple times leading to his death.Follow us on Twitter. Close Forgot password? Please put in your email: Send me my password! Justice for Caleb. This is all that matters.
