Doncic had 15 points, 13 rebounds and nine of his team’s 30 turnovers.Montrezl Harrell led the Clippers with 14 points on 5-for-11 shooting. (Darryl Dyck/The Canadian Press via AP)ExpandKawhi Leonard received a warm welcome back from Canadian fans in Vancouver before the game Thursday night, when his new Clippers squad lost its fifth and final preseason tuneup, stumbling 102-87 against the Dallas Mavericks. The next time the Clippers take the court, it will be for real, when they face the Lakers on Tuesday night at Staples Center in the regular-season opener for both teams. The Clippers still will be without All-Star Paul George, who continues to rehabilitate from shoulder surgeries. But they’ll have much closer to a full arsenal available than they had Thursday, when they also were without guards Lou Williams and Patrick Beverley (rest) and Rodney McGruder (ankle) and Amir Coffey (calf). The Clippers were frigid from the floor in the first quarter, when Leonard scored all six of their points through the first seven minutes, by which time the Clippers trailed 13-6. The finished the quarter 4 for 27 from the field and down 32-13. They whittled the deficit to eight points in the third quarter but never could completely close the gap, finishing the game shooting 36.6 percent (34 for 93) as a team. With his night due to end early, Leonard pushed it to another gear in the third, scoring seven points, grabbing two rebounds and finding a trailing Patrick Patterson for a slam in a seven-minute stretch. In that span, the Clippers outscored Dallas 12-6.Leonard finished with 13 points on 5-for-19 shooting, and had four steals, three rebounds and two assists in his second dress rehearsal with his new team, which finished the preseason 2-3, their only wins coming against opponents from China and Australia. While NBA general managers think the Clippers are the favorites to win the title, for most of the Canadian fans on hand Thursday, what Leonard did last spring is what matters most, when he led the Toronto Raptors to their first NBA title, triggering celebrations all over the country.Cheers echoed around Rogers Arena as Leonard led the Clippers on to the court for warm-ups and fans got loud each time he hit a shot. What the Clippers are saying the day after Luka Doncic’s game-winner tied series, 2-2 For Lakers’ LeBron James, Jacob Blake’s shooting is bigger issue than a big Game 4 victory “They should be excited,” Clippers coach Doc Rivers said before the game. “He did something very special for this country.”Related Articlescenter_img Clippers hope they can play to their capabilities, quell Mavericks’ momentum Kristaps Porzingis ruled out as Clippers, Mavericks set for Game 5; Follow for game updates Clippers vs. Mavericks Game 5 playoff updates from NBA beat reporters Newsroom GuidelinesNews TipsContact UsReport an Errorlast_img
