first_imgLifestyleNews Cassava Novelty Treats to be Featured at Strictly Local Christmas Village by: – November 27, 2019 Share Share Tweet Sharecenter_img DEXIA launched the second annual Strictly Local Christmas Village on Tuesday, November morning.The event takes place from December 18-20 at the Roseau Market.Lloyd Pascal, Chairman of DEXIA says the Christmas Village was born out of necessity for access to locally produced, well packaged goods, for both local and foreign consumption.“It is an opportunity to promote all things local to stimulate some growth within the craft, art, fashion, literature, music, agriculture and agro-processing sectors. It is also an opportunity to add value to our products and services and make them more attractive in the local and regional markets that we service,” he explained.Pascal hopes the village brings out Dominica’s best entrepreneurial spirit, exposing products of high value.A parade and children’s creative workspace form part of the activities, while agro-processing, fashion, art, expressions of music, poetry, and story-telling will be on show.Eats and skin products will also be available.DEXIA appeals to the general public and visitors alike to patronize the Strictly Local Christmas Village.Meantime, Dominica continues to follow closely the Food and Agriculture Organization’s declaration of cassava as a climate resilient product. Cassava will feature in an annual local entrepreneur event next month.The food court at the Strictly Local Christmas Village is organized to feature the use of cassava in a number of dishes.Nathalie Charles, representative of Dominica Health & Wellness Association, listed a few of the expected 12 cassava products to be on display and available for purchase at the village. “There is the cassava fruitcake and the rough cake that we make with coconut and spices. We have a cassava tart, pie, quiche, pizza, lasagna, sancoche, croquette and bakes,” Nathalie Charles of the Dominica Health and Wellness Association.Charles said the presentation of these cassava products is the beginning of a cassava drive that will continue through the year 2020.
