Danny Ings ‘delighted’ to be joining Liverpool next month

first_imgDanny Ings has said he is “delighted” to be joining Liverpool this summer. The England Under-21 striker was a long-term target for the Reds and the Anfield club announced on Monday they had beat a number of rivals to the 22-year-old, who will arrive when his contract at Burnley expires on July 1.Ings scored 11 goals in 35 appearances in his maiden top flight season and once the Clarets’ relegation was confirmed, his departure was inevitable. But he tweeted his thanks to the Turf Moor club on Tuesday night before outlining his excitement to be heading to Merseyside.“Thanks to Burnley for four brilliant years. The fans backed me every step of the way, I will never forget that. Good luck always,” he said.“Thanks for your messages. Delighted to be joining Liverpool. A special club with great players. I will give everything to be successful.”Ings will join Liverpool as a free agent, but it is far from a free transfer, with the Merseysiders facing the prospect of paying a record compensation fee for his services.Their original target of around £5million could be driven up to as much as £8m by Burnley, who had reportedly accepted an earlier £12m bid from Tottenham before it was rejected by the player in favour of a move to Anfield.
